Artistic Practice
A space-critical practice between body, language and architectural design
Ideologies inscribed in space, economic mechanisms and power structures can constrain bodies and shape identities. Consequently, my artistic practice focuses on a critical examination of the notion of neutrality within spaces. I draw on my background in architectural theory as a methodological resource with which to unveil and question historical layers and contemporary dynamics as spatial constellations.
How I work
The focus lies on the interplay between authentic and constructed identities — in the digital realm as well as in the physical world, in the portrayal of the female body as well as in spatial arrangements that determine visibility and representation. A spatial understanding of words and time spans connects the media used. I write — poems, plays, short stories — and work with a body-based approach, using movement as a form of critical thinking. These forms of expression are based on choreographically precise overlaps that present the body, language and architectural elements as interrelated. The subtle shifting of the familiar is the guiding approach.
In today’s world of sensory overload, the individualised instrumentalisation of the familiar is becoming the norm. As a critical fragment within the existing order, the aim is therefore to uncover implications that have been obscured by visual habits and ideological narratives. The dissonant gesture is used not to create sudden alienation, but to gently break down barriers.
