Open space

Collaboration

Dialogue, specifying and context-based strengthening of an artistic position.

The dialogue in mila-space arises in the overlap of different layers: between an artistic work, its aesthetic effect and the scales in which it appears — in physical space as much as in digital space, in the single work as much as in the coherence of an artistic practice. Making the spatial relation concrete becomes the method through which positions are negotiated, sharpened and unfolded.

What is it about?

Every collaboration begins with a conversation. We want to figure out whether working together makes sense and what input the project needs. In this way, mila-space remains open to both parties and to the process itself — through the refinement and context-based strengthening of the artistic position. The aim is not a finished product, but the conscious highlighting of existing logics of the practice.

What follows is tailored to each individual project: ranging from a one-off consultation shortly before the vernissage to long-term guidance throughout a project. Dialogue remains constant — getting to know one another, regular meetings, site visits, reference suggestions and honest feedback are intended to help gaining a deep understanding of the work and its spatial context, and its qualities.

What do I bring to the table?

The foundation of mila-space lies in the history and theory of architecture — a field of knowledge that considers spaces in their historical, social and aesthetic dimensions. This interdisciplinary perspective reveals connections that often remain unexplored in the artistic process: how body and movement, narrative and constellation, staging and scale interact. Incorporating these aspects can be used as a means to make an artistic work even more distinctive and impactful.

What can emerge?

Depending on the project and needs, the collaboration can take different forms:

  • Feedback and reflection on an ongoing artistic work
  • Developing and sharpening spatial concepts — for exhibitions, installations, performances and works in public, institutional or digital space
  • Curatorial advice: how does a work unfold its effect in space?
  • Writing exhibition texts, dossiers and artistic statements
  • Embedding a work in a historical, spatial or social context
  • Sharpening the underlying artistic position

Who is mila-space for?

mila-space is for artists and creatives who are looking for an open space where their work can flourish. Here, the focus is on the work itself, without losing sight of the joy of the creative process.
